The Monday Munchies

How can it be Christmas in just over a fortnight? I’m woefully underprepared and also have Mr Stork’s birthday to prepare for, with it taking place just 4 days before Christmas. In some ways I’m very grateful that he’s not materialistic, he really sees it as just another day. But equally, because he’s so hard to buy for, it makes it very difficult to think up two sets of gifts for him when his birthday and Christmas fall in such close proximity and that’s without having to give away my best gift ideas to both his family and my own when they’re devoid of inspiration.

How are your plans going? Are you one of life’s ‘it’s all done and dusted in November’ people or are you a ‘fly by the seat of your festive pants’ Christmas Eve shopper?

We’re not hosting Christmas this year which is handy because a) we’d struggle to fit people in and b) it won’t cost us a fortune but part of me is sad that we don’t get to do it. I’ve mentioned before that I love a list and getting ready to host Christmas would be the ideal test of my listing skills. Maybe next year. I genuinely can’t wait to do it, though, of course, I reserve the right to be pulling my hair out when I lose my list and it all goes to pot!

In the meantime, we’re trying to find the right balance between frugal living and getting in to the festive spirit with pre Christmas treats. After all it’s the season for sherry, Chocolate Oranges, mince pies and hearty winter casseroles. Our meal plan for the week ahead looks like this:

Meal Planning Monday | The Monday Munchies | Riding the Stork, a UK mummy and baby blogWe have a couple of vats of soup on the go for frugal and healthy lunches whilst breakfast has moved away from yoghurt and fruit to a more stodgy start of porridge with blueberries or maple syrup.

This week we’ll also be making a bumper load of chutney to give out on our Christmas travels. We might even make a few sweet treats. Next week’s Monday Munchies will be devoted to all things Christmas so drop me a line if you have a festive recipe you’d like to share.
